Taurus
April 20 – May 20
As an earth sign, the bull of the zodiac exudes a grounded sensibility and craves comfort. The strong-willed Taurus tends to have one or two tried-and-true wines that he absolutely adores (and won’t be too comfortable switching things up!). Unlikely to move once they've established roots, Taureans will enjoy Bordeaux for it its greatly heralded and centuries-long legacy. For example a Thomas Barton Bordeaux Rouge.
Gemini
May 21 - June 20
Gemini is the sign of the twins—meaning that two often contradictory selves are contained in one. Sometimes social, sometimes reclusive, Gemini is always opinionated, on the move and gravitating toward something different. The duality of Gemini brings to mind Pinot Grigio like the Santa Cristina Pinot Grigio from Antinori.
Cancer
June 21 – July 22
Sometimes hard on the outside, but always a softie on the inside, Cancers are highly nurturing. As a water sign, Cancers are compassionate and oriented toward maintaining close bonds with family and friends. But don’t get on their bad side. Just like Pinot Noir, when treated correctly, they will bring you to a place you won't ever want to leave. A perfect combination would be Chateau St. Jean Pinot Noir.
Leo
July 23 – August 22
The lion of the zodiac is usually the star of the show—wherever she or he goes! Known to have a penchant for luxurious living, Leo always treasures the finer things in life—including the very best wines. If any grape can claim the title of King of the Wine Jungle, it is Cabernet Sauvignon. Leo and Marques Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon are therefore best friends.
Virgo
August 23–September 22
Down-to-earth, organized and dedicated, the virgin is a natural giver, ideal friend and hard worker. Virgos rarely seek the limelight. But after a long day on the job, this Earth sign likes to unwind at home with a glass of wine in hand. Sauvignon Blanc remains highly enjoyable as a clean and refreshing wine that is very low maintenance. The Sauvignon Blanc from Les Deux Tours De la Doucette is designed for the Virgo.
Libra
September 23–October 22
Ruled by Venus, this air sign is a natural-born leader. Often flirts, but does well in love and business with close, one-on-one partnerships. Just like Rieslings, which requires well balanced combination of acid, sugar and texture in line for it to be great, Libras require harmony and balance in their relationships. The Hogue Genesis Riesling will bring this to the Libra.
Scorpio
October 23–November 21
Scorpios take time to warm up to people. This tough facade is similar to the wines made with Sangiovese, which can be bitter when young yet fragrant, sensual and bold after aging just like the Chianti Classico from IL Ruffino.
Sagittarius
November 22–December 21
Outgoing, exuberant and generous (sometimes to a fault), Sagittarius is an excellent party planner, and is often the go-to person for advice (or a shoulder to cry on). The Sagittarian has a naughty sense of humour, and is amused by novel things and ideas. The honest and direct character of Sagittarians is well suited to the straightforward and unapologetic fruitiness of the Zinfandel. The Ravenswood Lodi Zinfandel will please the Sagittarian well.
Capricorn
December 22 – January 19
Patience and perseverance mark the sign of the goat—Capricorns are also known to “climb mountains” and are attracted to scaling new heights romantically, socially and even physically. This Earth sign is frequently stubborn, and has a few tried-and-true favourites, but with a gentle nudge will often try new things. Juicy yet complex, Malbecs should delight any Capricorn just like the Reserve Malbec from Terrazas de los Andes.
Aquarius
January 20 – February 18
Natural-born leaders, original thinkers and true innovators, Aquarians often usher in new ideas and frequently set trends. This air sign is also down to earth, enjoying quiet nights at home as well as parties on the town. A Riesling from Hugel & Fils Riesling is a perfect match for Aquarians.
Pisces
February 19 – March 20
Much like the malleable Chardonnay, which will change depending on the location it is planted and how it is made, Pisceans adapt easily to the mood surrounding them. They are the true embodiment of water, always moving with the tides. Dreamy, poetic and free-thinking, this highly sensitive sign seeks the fantastical in all things. The Bourgogne Chardonnay from Maison Latour suits perfect with Pisces.
